Stolen drugs are ‘potentially fatal,’ police warn

Prescription drugs stolen from an east-end pharmacy during a recent break-in could be fatal medicine if they're doses are exceeded, Hamilton police warned Tuesday.

The drugs xarelto, a blood thinner, elavil, an anti-depressant, and zopiclone, which is used to treat insomnia, are of particular concern, police said.

"This medication if taken in quantities exceeding their recommended dosages is potentially fatal," police said.

On Monday, police reported they were searching for a suspect they believe used a large rock to break down the front door of the Medicine Shoppe at 840 Queenston Rd. on Sunday around midnight.

Police said the suspect was wearing dark pants and a black hoodie.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call Detective Constable David Brewster at 905-546-8935 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
